The Southfield church's "Celebration of Victory", Feb. 14-17, will be a time of reflection, jubilant praise, and thanksgiving said its pastor, Dr. James L. Morman.
"There is no failure in God," Morman said. "He promises us victory in every area of our lives. This is a time to celebrate and thank God for what he continually does for us in our individual lives and as a corporate group."
Feature speakers will include, Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin of The Potter's House Christian Fellowship, Jacksonville Florida (Feb. 14); Dr. A.R. Bernard, of Christian Cultural Center, Brooklyn New York (Feb. 15); and Pastor Randy Morrison, of Speak the Word Church International, Golden Valley, Minnesota (Feb. 17). Alvin Slaughter will be the special musical guest. McLaughlin and Bernard will each speak at 7 p.m. and Morrison will speak at the 10 a.m. worship service.
McLaughlin founded in 1988 what is now a worldwide ministry known as The Potter's House Christian Fellowship. Starting with only about 40 members, today the Potter's house is home to over 4,000 members. One of the most unique segments of the ministry revolves around and economic empowerment center called The Potter's House Multiplex. The Multiplex was designed to spawn Christian businesses and foster economic synergy within the church and community. This 42,000 square feet structure houses an assortment of businesses owned and operated by members of the church or the church itself.
Bernard started Christian Cultural Center as a storefront in 1978 in Brooklyn, New York. It has emerged into a thriving ministry and not-for-profit organization with a membership of over 26,000. Future expansion on a newly purchased 4.5 acre of land adjacent to the Cultural center will include a 500-seat theatre for the performing arts, a botanical garden modeled after the U.S. Botanical Garden in Washington, DC, a youth sport complex and senior housing as well as other community development projects.
Morrison started Speak the Word Church International in Golden Valley, MN, in May of 1977 with only six people. It is now one of the largest multi-racial churches in the area. His television program, "A Common Sense Approach" (formerly called "The Exalted Word Broadcast") is seen on television on every inhabited continent. The broadcast is carried on local secular stations and on secular cable channels throughout the world.
