For every rebel, there is a romantic dreamer waiting in the wings; for Gershwin's Porgy, the dreams are born on Catfish Row. Porgy is a benevolent beggar who laments that he has "plenty o' nuttin'", until he finds everything in the arms of the troubled beauty Bess. As Porgy bravely protects his love from her deadly addictions, he awakens within himself a strength he never knew existed. Replete with some of the most beloved music written for the stage, including "Summertime," and "It Ain't Necessarily So," George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess is regarded as the Great American Opera.
